I wish I wasn't going away for three days so I could get this setup the way I want it.   My son built this table and I just got this light box for $25  on Craigs list.  I am syked (can't spell either) to say the least.

looks really good Barbara.  Nice table too.  Barb, what catagory did you find it in.  When I type in "light box" tons of stuff comes up but not light boxes.

When I found mine Joan I looked under Arts and crafts, then did a search in there.

Wow...a wafer thin light table. What kind of lights are inside, florescents? Are they the thick or the narrower tube lights?
I'm also wondering if there's venting for any heat build up to escape?

I've never seen one that thin before! Nice find Diane:)

Nancy, Sorry that I am just getting back to you.  The light box has 4 daylight bulbs in it that are the 4 foot bulbs and the box is deceiving because the bottom of the fixture is below the wood sides. The woods sits on top of the metal frame and the short sides have a metal lip that the wood sits into.  Do you think that it would need ventilation from the florescent bulbs?

I think light tables are generally vented. The ones I've seen were anyway. If you leave them on for a long time, or feel the heat built up inside, try drilling a few holes in the sides near the top. You could even make the hole placements look decorative:)
It's the same idea as lamps with vented holes in the vase caps.

Enjoy your new find!

Barbara:
That's a nice big light box, you'll enjoy using it. But, with four 4' bulbs, I'm sure it will get pretty hot after a short amount of time. Didn't it come with vents around the sides?  - Tod

Tod, No there aren't any vent holes.  I think I will take off the top that just sets into the frame and go at it with a drill.  I bought it from a photographer that had made it and is moving to VT and getting rid of stuff before he moves, My gain and I am glad that he decided to sell it.  I couldn't even but the light for that much.

I have an idea!  Why not turn it on as it is for about 30 minutes and determine then whether it needs some ventilation?
