I am sad to say that I don't have a basement or even half of a garage to work in. This is what I have done with our tiniest (10X9-ish) bedroom upstairs. I don't have a light box (yet), but am pretty happy with how this works for me-at least so far. Grinder station and storage (I still need to pry some pegboard hooks off of the garage pegboard or get some new ones so that I can hang some tools on the back. I also still need to put something over that worktop since it is not water resistant). And my workbench, with scrap storage underneath. More scrap (in the boxes with the blue lids) and other stuff I don't know what else to do with. And glass... Since the room is carpeted, I found some plastic tiles and put them down in the work areas.

WOW, your scrap pieces are MUCH larger than what I'd call scrap. All my scrap is seperated by color and in containers that would hold like 1.5 sandwiches haha. Ok so I have about 18 containers but they are much smaller than yours. Now I don't feel like I have too much haha. Your pieces are great for still cutting suncatchers out of or angels or just a ton of stuff. WOW...did I already say that? I love the room too and the patterns taped to the wall are also cool if I might add that.

You have plenty of room! Far too much glass tho' !!! I have a bench like that and used to have it in front of a window without the pegboard and top shelf, also the same fan reversed for extraction. I enjoyed the natural light and simple ventilation. Do you have plans for ventilating your soldering area?

Thanks everyone! As far as the 'scrap,' I mostly have been putting anything that is too small to go in the larger storage areas, but bigger than my hand into the larger white and green bins under the workbench. The smaller stuff goes in the ones with the blue lids. Since I got most of my glass either cheap off of Craigslist (or free...woo hoo), I just sorted most of it by size and called all of the 'smaller' stuff scrap. Ventilation-the fan in the window reverses to exhaust the room. I also run the black fan to keep the air moving in there (and to keep the room cool). I have an air filter that I got in one of my Craigslist forays and I plan to try it out and see if it helps out with ventilation. Oh-and the ugly green chair is there because it reminds me not to cover up the heat/AC duct with boxes of glass-which I almost did at the end of my last organizing session when I was getting a little punchy. D'oh! Anyway-thanks for the compliments. I am pretty happy with the room right now, although I will probably reorganize it a few more times as I start learning more about what my needs really are.

Lynn, you will find that as you grow you will come up with new ways to organize, so don't get discouraged. I have changed mine 4 times in 4 years.

Just promise not to tell my poor husband that little fact! He gets a little nervous when I start wanting to rearrange the furniture in the house.....and he had to help me haul all of that stuff upstairs in the first place. I don't think he is ready to contemplate rearranging it all!

Goodness! Such good use of small spaces!....My husband says that if I had a warehouse I could fill it up!....Right now I am in our standard sized attached 2 car garage, and it isn't big enough! We are in the process of having built a 2 story 2 car 24'X24' garage in our "back" yard. My husband originally told me that he was going to move his toys there, and that should give me more room, but I could not move to that area because the downstairs was FOR CARS.....Well, just the other day when we visited the lot of the builder, we went into the model of what will be our building and he mentioned that that space would be big enough for me to have some classes in.....I have had to remind him several times that HE told me I could not have the space (hehe)......So I may be gettin a new studio out of this......We will see......

So I may be gettin a new studio out of this......We will see...... My fingers are crossed for you! I have to admit that, even if we could add another garage to our space, it would end up holding the motorcycle trailer and the bikes and their assorted paraphernalia rather than glass.... That would be a wonderful studio space, though!

Well, it has rained every day this week. The new garage has walls and the beginnings of a roof. If it looks like I will be moving into the space, I will post photos....Even if I do move out there, I can't do it for at least a month after it is finished, because I have to let the concrete cure, then seal the floor, so I can clean it later....and sealing it keeps the dust down. I don't think I can afford a "real" floor there right now...The garage is costing an arm and a leg! annabelle

You'll have to design something purdy to go there.

A purdy grey peg board, shelf and strip light? .......that's hard!
