Okay all you lucky people who have the professional plus version of glasseye, I have a question about Auto Trace...

When it creates the eye file using Auto Trace does it also put all the knots in so you can quickly color the design or do you have to go back and manually add all the $%%*^ knots?

After the design I just traced, I may need to start saving my pennies for this upgrade...

thanks

I have only used the Auto trace feature a couple of times - yes it puts knots in, waaaaaaaay tooooooooo many in my opinion. If a line is supposed to be straight, it might actually wind up with 10 or more knots, when in fact there should only be 2. Every little imperfection in the line seems to cause the auto trace to put a knot then continue on with the line, especially straight lines that are at an angle.

thanks Alan,

too many knots has got to be better than having to go in and add them when I manually trace... I don't think I'll ever get this latest one done...

LOL..I can't say that I'm particularly fond of the Autotrace feature..which is why I didn't spend the $$'s for the Pro version of GE.  I used the trial version and got lines EVERYWHERE, including places I didn't want them..it wouldn't have saved me any time at all, in fact, it created a huge mess.

Of course I wasn't trying the auto trace feature on something simple either....  For what it's worth.  It's easier in my opinion to just go ahead and do it yourself.

Yes, and I'm (obviously) a huge glass eye fan myself.  But I think that someone should put something fairly straightforward in their GE program, autotrace it and post the results..That should cause a few moments at least of hilarity.

Usually it takes more effort to clean it up than it would take to trace it from the beginning.

I too have pro plus and have found that feature to work well only when the picture is perfect in contrasts.

A black & white cartoon works best - as long as the lines are not too close together. Coloring book pictures work real good.

thanks for all the input on this guys -- guess my pennies will go to better use on maybe a new studio (casually mentioned it to DH when he was in a great mood and he actually liked the idea of a second 2 car garage especially when I said I would take the refrigerator, freezer, all the bikes and the lawnmower)

the pattern I'm working on was a black and white and all though it is very detailed (by my pattern standards) there is great contrast between the background and line... there were a lot of curves though... took me about 2 hrs to quick draw and now I have to clean up all the lines and add the knots -- I like to have as accurate a piece count as I can otherwise I might say to heck with the knots... I don't really need to color this one as it is probably going to end up in one of my own windows...

too funny LA!  Isn't that called reverse pyschology?   (sp?) I know I probably have spell check, another one of those things I don't know how to use...whatever.  Anyway, more room for his big boy toys LA.  Very smart of you!!

that is the only way to get him to agree to anything -- it has to benefit him somehow -- and not only would I get a bigger space but I would also have the right electricity for a kiln....

Alan, you might have had straight lines checked.  Um, that's not what it's called, but I'm blanking on it.  It works good sometimes if you pick the right options.
