I got glass from a couple of sources.  One of the white rods that I have comes out nice and white in the final bead.  The other white turns out grey.  I am working them both in the same part of the flame.  What gives????

The grey one is oxidising.  Work that one further out in the flame.

Are you absolutely certain these are the same white? There is Anise white, also I think there is opalino white and maybe even alabaster white. Look at the ends you might be able to notice differences there.

Regular Effetre white is very runny, melts quickly but doesn't burn to easy, unless you are working it way too hot. Opalino and Anise really need to be worked cool, very cool.

Then again, you could have a rod from a different batch and they could both be regular white. I just got one single rod in a pound of black that turns silver, kinda nice if that is what you wanted or planned for, terrible is all you wanted was a stinking black bead!

I picked up some Moretti Alabaster special white rods yesterday and am having no problems with them at all.  The color is staying nice and white.  They melt in easy and are easy to handle.
