What can I say, gotta love a Grandmother *smiles*. She called last night after her bridge game and is all set to go with me for the exhibit. So I'll be tossing on the heels and enjoying the evening with a very special woman :) .
I hated how all this came out to be honest, it sounds like I don't leave the house, avoid social interaction and cringe at the thought of being around too many people  Loser. I move around a lot so I'm used to living in places where the friends and family quota stands at '0' and then when we arrive the hubby looks at me and says goodbye, I'll see in a month or two *lol. It's life for me, I go out for coffee, shopping and restaurants and dine for one more times alone then with a husband, friend or family member because... well that's how it goes when you move to new cities/towns*lol. I love change, I love moving, I can be near family or far from family and thoroughly enjoy both having the consistency of a dog. It's not your everyday that you go to a party, alone, not knowing anyone there and most people when they get invited ask a friend to come or bring a date because that's just how people are... we tend to partner up as humans, it's how we operate. So I guess that's it *lol, I operate as part time wife with a partner to go to the movies with and part time woman who goes to explore a new city alone and enjoys some pasta and wine on an outdoor patio  wink.

Everyone that will be attending, went at one time for the "first time" as well. Next year, you'll be a seasoned pro on the circuit.

Amber Im so glad your Grandmother is going with you. I know how you feel about doing things alone. My husband traveled alot and I went to many functions alone  but always knew someone going. So this is a bit different but I'm sure you will both enjoy the evening and please let us know how it turns out. Have a wonderful time.

Been there, done that too, Amber, for a good part of my life!  It's tough! I had to make myself go to functions by myself and learn to approach people that looked just as miserable as I was!  We know you're not a "shut-in"!!  It's just not easy taking that first step!

I hope you have a wonderful time!  Grandmothers are wonderful, aren't they?  wink

Amber, So glad Grams is going with you.  I'm like you, do alot by myself, but hate big crowds especially when I don't know anyone there.  Would be more apt to not go if I had to go alone.   But I don't think this one should be missed and glad that you are going.  As someone said, you go, you look, if you don't feel comfortable, you leave.  Have done that myself, when stepping out of that comfort zone.
Have fun!  Let us know how it goes!

I'm so glad you are going to be going (alone or not didn't matter -- you just needed to go) and the fact that Grandma is going to is just an added bonus...

Have fun and remember all about it so you can share with us

ps -- don't forget your business cards in case someone asks what you do

Well I have to say it was a lovely evening! Fabulous works on show and I mean fabulous, some of the things people can do... just beautiful and so creative! Chatted with a few people and had a great time, now I can say that had I gone alone I could pin point a couple other ladies who were obviously in the same boat I was, new to the council and not knowing anyone there *lol. Anyways a great night, beautiful gallery in a beautiful building and just a greatly talented group of people *smiles*. It was neat to see some of the textile art and some of the jewelery/puzzle work..... I just couldn't stop looking at all the little bits and parts. Grammy had a nice time to, although she's more on the practical side if you know what I mean, so some of it caught her off gaurd *lol.

I actually didn't take any photos... I wasn't too sure if it was kosher since no one else hauled out a camera *L. They had received extra funding apparently so they had books printed with photos of the work, info on the artists and the theme of the show. I'll cheat after and see if I can take photos of the photos  wink. On an interesting note I found out why I couldn't seem to google any information on the show, it had actually changes names after they had edited and curated some of the submissions! Very cool I thought even if it was a bit confusing at first, they started with a concept that they thought would be more controversial but after receiving the works and going through it all they decided to change the name because the overall theme had more 'Flow', hence the title of the show and the change from 'React'. They had been advertised under the old name since all of that is done months and months in advance and most of all I thought it was great that they went ahead and made the change! It shows they don't limit themselves just because they put a few dollars in one direction *smiles*, so it seems like they really value that freedom. So, yuppers, all in all a great night and I'm looking forward to the next one!
