Speaking of ducks / mallards...I was a t the park this morning and there are about 15 male mallards to 4 or 5 females. One of the wardens was telling me the males kill the babies just so the females can have more...she said it's terrible to watch, it's like the males are raping the girls! There was also a mother who was trying to drown a baby that wasn't hers. It was wild, she was riding around on it's back, pecking at it's neck and was doing that for at least 10 minutes before she finally got off. The babies mother was swimming alongside the whole time but she couldn't do anything to stop the mean one. The warden was about to go in but she said the lake is really deep where they were and it was only around 50 degress today.

Anyway, I thought it was interesting to really know what the birds were doing rather than what you might mistake as them playing. That was my educational moment for the day.

Thanks for sharing that - I think!! It is interesting to know tho - we don't live on the water, would likely not see that.  Not sure If I'd want to now.  Mother nature at work!

He is gorgeous.  I never liked ducks (grew up in a rural enough area that we kept ducks...and chickens...and geese...and they were all noisy beasts), but he sure looks a lot better in glass than the ones we had ever looked out in the yard!

I've seen a mother mallard lay an egg, then deliberately roll it into the water. Several days in a row. Who knew?

Gosh, I never knew anything about duck behavior....More info than I think I need, now (smile).....Glad you all like  the piece.....delivered it Saturday, and of course customers love it!...Now they are thinking about the paladium window over their front door and some rectangle windows in their breakfast area, which overlooks the lake.....These folks are just so easy to please!    annabelle
