Here is the duck panel finished.  the first photo is in natural light, the 2nd is backlit.  It will go into an attic window and be backlit from inside the attic.  It went together so well...everything fit first time....no soldering glitches....I am pleased with it.

What great colors. It looks so different back lit than with natural light, and I can't choose which way I like best as they are both gorgeous.

Very nice!!!

I love the way light can really change a piece -- and this piece is a perfect example of why I am obsessed with glass!!!

Annabelle, how do you get your solder so smooth? My soldering is my demon.. is there a secret? Sacrifice small animals? Offer cakes and honey to the solder gods? Tell me!

WOW, ya'll!   Thanks for all the kind remarks!.....I have been working with glass for over 20 years.  The first piece I soldered was a dome lampshade....I figured that if I could learn to solder in 3-d, I could solder anything!...Practice, practice, practice.  Breathe while you solder.....holding your breath does not help.  I have watched lots of folks solder, and we all seem to approach it from our own prespective.  I have taken workshops from Vicki Payne and Kay Weiner, among others, over the years....and always take away what works for me.  Just don't get in a hurry when beading, and be sure to blend your base solder line with the bead line, so they become one.  Thanks again, all...

Annabelle, I looked at it again and have to say I love the glass you used.  It seems to give a ton of definition to the feathers.  Love this piece

Annabelle

Funny you mention the breathing... I'm working with a lady trying to help her hone her skills and she holds her breath all the time and I keep having to tell her to breathe!!!  I'm also trying to tell her she has to find what works for her and she hasn't gotten the message yet because she gets frustrated when she can't exactly mimic my technique...

I discovered early on that most of my students hold their breath while they cut and while they solder....I tell them to take a deep breath before they start soldering, then concentrate on breathing normally while they solder....That way, they don't seem to get as caught up in worrying about what theiir first solder lines look like.  I don't know what to tell you about the lady you are trying to help....another thing I tell my students is that there are no stained glass police....I don't care how they old the glass cutter or the soldering iron, as long as they arrive at a finished product of which they can be proud.  annabelle

Annabelle,

I don't think there is anything else I can tell her, she just needs to come to the realization herself (I've said all the things you just did)... I think she will but it is a matter of practice...
