My boss's husband is a geomapper (he makes digital maps) for the State of TN and she saw this in one of my pattern books and asked me to make it for his birthday next week...

she picked out the glass -- the green and brown are all the same sheet of wissmach and the water is spectrum wispy.

at first I didn't think I was going to be able to do some of the inside curves but it seems to have come out rather nicely if I say so myself. -- won't be using this wissmach with too many curves again because it cuts horribly...

don't laugh but to see it in the natural light, I taped it together (all the gaps are closed when it is one the board)

I also fixed the bump on the top after I took the picture...

thanks all,

emailed the boss the pics and she loved them so I should know his reaction end of next week -- they eat lunch at our office every days so I'll see him soon after he gets it...

once I got to working with it, it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I anticipated it was going to be...

Neat idea Lou Ann!
Are you going to hang it up or set in a plate rack?

There's 2 good places to add a couple of hooks.

Nancy,

I was going to hang it from the two spots you indicated but I never gave a plate rack a thought... I might ask my boss tomorrow if she prefers to go that route, I have clear small stands that would work nicely and that way he could put it on his cube at work if he wants to...

thanks for the suggestion...

I did manage to just finish foiling this just a few minutes ago...

Too bad he isn't self-employed!!!

The idea wasn't mine, this pattern was in a book by Deverie Wood that I picked up for something else and when my boss saw it she was all over having this pattern done for his birthday...

I actually did a real quick and rough solder on this a few minutes ago so I can bring it to work with me and show the boss how it will look on a stand... thanks for the great idea Nancy

now I need some coffee

Boss loved the globe and she especially loved the idea of putting it on a stand that way he can put it on his desk at work... (thanks again Nancy)....

I did just enough soldering this morning so I could show it to her on the stand so I'll post finished pictures tomorrow.
