Nancy, one option for cutting the bars is a wet saw used for cutting tiles. They are not expensive and will easily cut through the bars.
That sounds like an idea Kev.
I have a Taurus3 ringsaw, but I don't think I want to use it for that...lol.
I think I'm going to try Becki's idea of eliminating the first firing and try fusing the layers of glass on edge. It would be a neat experiment. Bubble powder? ...mmm. I'll have to see if my supplier carries that. Who makes that and what's it called?

More ppl getting kilns...hehe!!!
Thanks for the comments:)

It's called "Bubble Powder"....Armstrong Glass makes it, and others do as well. The brand I picked up was by a company called "Satellite-Unique" (318) 697-4401. It was $3.50 for a 1 oz jar.

hummm.  have to check and see if my hubby has one of those! He seems to have one of everything else (lol). When he wants something new he buys it and hides it then when he brings it out he says 'oh I've had that for a long time".  It took me years to wise up to him but hey those toys are often there when I need to use them!! It'll be my luck he doesn't have one of them but we did lay tile in the last house so who knows.

You can use baking soda to make bubbles, too.  Some people like it better than the store-bought stuff.  I've never tried it, but I've read that it only takes a teeny, tiny bit.  You can apply it with a toothpick, or mix it with water and paint it on.  And that's more than I know about it.  You can find some good information about it on the Warm Glass board.

Hubbys with tool stashes, lol. Doncha just love it! I'm glad I hung onto everything when my fella passed away. Now I have a full carpenters shop I can play in when I want to take a break from glass.

Nancy, I love the rainbow nuggets and I think I might try your technique and see what I can come up with. I know my DH has a tile saw somewhere, I might just have to go and find it. I love finding ways to use up scrap glass.

The taurus to cut tile, that's exactly what I want to stay away from:)
What kind of kiln are you getting Diane?

Thanks Linde! Show us some pics when you have some made? Light colours seem to work well.
