Here is the first thing I made with Glass Eye. I love that program!!! Very handy when dealing with clients via email as well as in person.

I've never made a square shaped shade like this before, and found that by using a carpenter's square, I was able to make it behave when I was wiring in the side seams for extra support:)

Then came the time to figure out how to hang it and realized that my spider was too short! I checked with my supplier and that was the longest they had. So I looked around the studio, hoping for an idea when I saw some small copper tubing.

First pic shows that I used a small pipe cutter to create 4 extentions.
Second pic - I had to be carefull not to squash one end but be able to bend the 4 extentions into L-shapes.
Third shows my new fittings.

I slid the ends onto the spider and soldered the lower part of the extentions into the inside upper corners of the lamp. This worked out better than I thought, because it gave me a chance to adjust the spider so it would hang straight.

Just beautiful! Love the colors and textures!
You've mentioned in the past that you make your own glass globs in the kiln (so that you have a better choice in colors). How do you make them? Are they like tiny "pot melts" or are they small stacks of glass? I don't have a kiln, so I don't even know why I'm asking! But I'm just curious!

And finally, the finished lantern.
The last pic is a little dark, but there she is! All with the thanks for the all who have encouraged me to get off my duff and learn how to play with glass eye.

I keep sneaking in posts at the same time that you're posting!
I was wondering what are the dimensions on this lantern? I'm at work (!) so I don't have my big fancy screen like at home, so I can't read the numbers on your carpenter's square to get an idea of the size.

Thank you! Small flowers
I have to part with it in a few days. It's going to an artist's café down the road from me, along with a buch of other things that I'll show in here.

Cheers! I'll pop back in.

Shhhh...I'm suppose to be working
