Annabelle,

those are all wonderful -- I would love to know where you found the tool...

on vacation in Gatlinburg this year I met a man who did (he retired the week after we were there) etching using a huge table grinding wheel; my husband told me I needed to learn that because he thought the etched bevels looked cool in the pieces that were there and if he told me to learn it that means he's willing to pay for the tool  grin grin

I don't use a wheel.  what I use is a small tool a little fatter than a ball point pen, which is powered by compressed air....and I 'draw" on the glass.....very different from the wheel method, which is sometimes call "cut" glass....As to the hand etching tools, you can use anything from a diamond or carbide point stylus, to something like a dremmel tool, to the inland electric engraver to the high speed engraver I use.  Just do a google search for hand engraving tools to start seeing what is out there.  I like my tool because there is virtually no vibration and lots of control.  I am glad you like my work....Talk to Rebecca, too...she does hand engraving with a dremmel, I think.

I haven't done any lately.  I just used a Dremmel with a diamond bit.  I used several different shaped bits from the Harbor Freight selection.  I always meant to do more, but I got too busy with other things.

Thanks Ladies,

Just remembered last night that I posted this question... DUH?

DH just bought himself a really nice dremel so I think I'm going to go out to harbor freight and look at the diamond bits so I can try it out...

I may be asking you for more information Annabelle because I have the start of arthritis in my hands and not sure how well they are going to like using the dremel (vibration of hand sanders drives me nuts).

thanks so much

Dremel also has a flexible shaft that can be added - no vibrations.

Lou Ann, magnetic bracelets work for some people that are getting arthritis in their hands.  Mine started last November - or that's when it really started to bother me anyway.  I bought magnetic bracelets for both wrists and I know it helps me as I really feel it when I forget to put them back on. Just thought I'd mention it.

thanks Anne,

I forgot about those, my brother bought a set for my mom a few years back so I might try to use hers while I'm there to see how they work for me...

after today, I'm really going to have to remember to work with my fingers and to take a break when I am doing a lot of typing (I barely stopped typing the whole time I was at work today)
