A Lantern

And this really is a finally finished.  This baby has been on a shelf for about 5 years - decided last week it had to be done- so it finally is. Not the greatest pics but you get the idea.

thanks everyone.  I'm actually quite pleased with it now that it's done and it does give a soft light.  Now I have 2 big lampshades that have to be finished.  Wish some of you lived closer to me- I'd ship them to you and you could finish and hang them in your home - lol. Didn't realize lamp shades would be SO heavy!!

They are comparatively heavy. That's why you can't futz around with "dinky" lamp-bases. The bases have to have broad bottoms (like good breeding stock) and be heavy enough to support them. You don't want a lamp that gets knocked over easily. All that work lying on the floor in pieces is a really disheartening sight.

Also, ceiling fixtures need good solid anchoring places - into the joists, or at very least butterfly bolts and anchors..

It looks great!! Yuppers lamp shades are definitly heavy, but the stained glass bases I find are so very pricey that I always keep my eyes out at second hand shops or even Home Depot. Jon will be off doing something else and I'll be walking by rows and rows of lamps giving each one a little wiggle.... of course that just sounds wierd if your read it the wrong way *lol.

When Finding Nemo was a big thing I did a Nemo theme lantern for my grandson - now that was fiddly thing to make, so with this one done I think I'm at my limit for lanterns. Plus I have these two lamp shades I have to finish - and I know I'm going to have to discipline myself to pull them out of the box to finish them.......yuch...........

So no I don't think I'll make any more.  I'll be glad to get back to making the airy whimsical fun things I like making. Like I said earlier I wish some of you that like doing these kinds of things lived closer to me and could take them off my hands. I realy need to quit procrastinating and get them done right??  Then the question will be what the heck am I going to do with them.  Will just have to take them to the shows - oh crap so heavy to carry - and give someone a good deal to take them off my hands.

Ok, so I need to quit complaining and get back to work right...............!!!!

Anyway, yes thank you, the lantern came out really well and I am pleased with it. And take my word for it, the longer you leave those projects unfinished the harder it seems to get back to them!

I love that Bamboo pattern! I made it last year for a wedding gift. I couldn't get the mottle, yours is so much prettier.
I made my base, for $6 and have enough for a few more.

Thanks Glassic. as you can see from the earlier posts I had it in the works for a long time.  If I remember correctly it's Bullseye mottle - and I could be out to lunch but I don't think they're making it anymore. Go figure.

I could have got it, I just didn't fancy another 40 mile drive the following day! So found some Armstrong at Hobby Lobby, I didn't know the stained glass store was closed on mondays.
