Here is another set of coasters I made as a gift for a coworker in the colors she requested. It's a great way to use up small pieces of glass.

Such a simple thing, but I really like them. I use the bottom side as the presentation side as the topside is too slick, and there is a slight texture from the fusing paper left on the bottom side.

Good idea! They're really nice Kev. Glad you made and posted these, reminded me I need to make some, our cardboard ones are looking really ratty. And thanks for the tip on using the bottom for presentation!!

They are really unique. I like the abstract feel. Your co-worker will love them.

Putting felt on the bottom might protect table tops - or maybe little cork or silicone knobbies, (Oh listen to me. All the household hints. Do as I say, not as I do!)

@Graham Becki..yes some people use glass coasters. A friend of mine had a set that she bought from a store. I put little silicone buttons on the underside to keep them from sliding around on the table. You can get them at Home Depot..16/pkg.

I've always wondered........it seems that moisture from the drink would puddle on the glass and run off defeating the purpose of a coaster...or stick to the bottom of the glass and fall in your lap!

I have not had that experience with them as of yet. That may be the case with the smooth shiny side, but the textured side would hold the water better...it kind of looks slightly frosted..I love the look of it.
just think what you can do with them....inclusions, small designs, paint on them, use frit...mini canvas's. you could probably get about $30.00 for a set of 4. They measure 4" x 4".

Very Cool Kev!!! And just want to add a couple notes, cork takes a looong time to dry so I wouldn't use it.... or should I say I wouldn't use it again *lol. When we renovated our last place we had some left over tiles from the kitchen backsplash, instead of getting rid of them we threw some cork on the bottom and voila, coasters *smiles*. The condensation won't run off the coasters, not from my experience anyways and I use them all the time. I have an odd living room table that is faux brick and has an uneven surface, coaster help in the balancing act for drinks * .

we use coasters all the time -- I personally prefer the stone ones that absorb the moisture but my mom had all kinds of crystal ones when I was growing up and I don't remember there being puddles in them at all...
I think they would be a big hit Kev

Well yeah, I use coasters too but the kind that soak up the moisture! I've seen tons of great looking glass coasters made and sold but I've always wondered about the practicality of glass as a coaster. I'm not trying to start a coaster revolution but I'm going to play the devil's advocate for a minute and ask...glass is not absorbant so where the heck does the moisture go?? Kev, I really do like your coasters! I just had to ask and it will probably get me in trouble!!

I have glass ones that you put photos in and though there may be a little moisture on them, not enough to run off.
