Getting Started

This past weekend my new workshop was delivered!  I am as excited as a kid at Christmas!!  This is right off the driveway of our house.  The inside still has lots of work to do but this is a first big step toward my own place to work and display my work.  We will be finishing it off as time (and budget) allows.  Pics to follow as we work at it over the next year or so..... The next step will be windows!

Love the porch. I am guessing 11'x18'. Mine is 12'x 18'

We have one that is 12 by 32 and it is the best thing we ever did. Has one big window in front but ours is turned sideways from yours, and one smaller window. We insulated it very good, put beadboard for walls, put in a small bathroom and a window unit heat/ air. It takes almost nothing to heat or cool it. The cost really wasn't all that bad but that was before prices started going up 4 years ago. You will love yours and the porch is a great place to hang out or hang things.

We ordered it with no windows because the ones they offered where to small, so decided to pick out our own and install what we really wanted.  The brown tape on the inside walls is where we were masking off where the windows will go, subject to change as we figure out where everything else will go to.

Sounds like we are following your lead.  It will be heated and cooled.  It is 12 X 34 and we have taped off the floor where the bathroom will go already!  I just loved the porch and it matches the porch on the front of our house.  The work shop is located at our "vacation" home but it is where we plan to retire in a few years.  I hate coming back to cold weather and work when we go down there (in Arkansas) and with this building calling my name, I find it even harder to lock up and drive back up north (Illinois).  This is the first concrete thing that tells me I might just get to spend my days doing what I love, so it has more meaning to me than just a workshop!!!  I wanted a little extra room so I can have friends join me to work on their own projects there too.  A gathering place for artists, what better way to spend your days?

Whoo hoo!  That'll be an awesome studio.  Take your time to get it exactly the way you want - which will likely change a few times till you settle on something. Looking forward to following the pics as you go forward.

I have on too. I would like to start the inside work this spring. If you have insulated yours, give me some advice on what method. Do you need to use those vent baffles in the ceiling? What type of insulation did you use. I think mine is 12x16.

Deb, proper venting is very important to any wood framed structure.  Actually any structure should be vented for many reasons.  Check with your local lumber mart, they have people there that can give you advise as to how much and where to place the venting.
