And yet 1 more...

This time I was going for a more linear blocked out look. I posted it on the site. It is 16" x 22", 98 pieces.

I like the way you handled the background. Very interesting.

Here is another option which I really love a lot!

I blocked out the frame as well, which could still be done in one color, or another color or colors could be added. I really love how it ties in with the background design of the panel itself, and makes the actual border blend in and not be so obvious.

Like Audrey said "I like the way you handled the background."

The uneven grid, like a stone-block wall, allows seams that act as relief lines, from random arrangements of flowers, without looking contrived or becoming obtrusive.

A couple of my favourite projects over the years have used this design trick.

Thanks!

Your exactly right Graham. I wanted relief lines, but wanted the background fairly clear of other content, so using the straight lines allowed me to break the pieces up into cuttable pieces connecting all the content together, yet not having to add the typical cut lines running out  to the edges. I love the finished look. It too reminds me of a stone wall. I will certainly be doing more like this.

Really like the "stone block wall" effect.  Beautiful.

But, Kevin, no respectable iris would be caught dead without at least one slender leaf.  Other than that...I loves these!

That's were the individual executing the pattern can introduce their own spin on it...LOL

Very beautiful Kev.  I agree, incorporating cut lines by creating an interesting background is the ultimate in design I feel.  I have fallen asleep at the wheel occasionally in my designs by not considering this.  This design is an excellent example of pointing out this technique.

Thanks Deb. I love it too. I think the blocks really give it a contemporary feel, yet also a traditional feel as well.
