I've completed a lead project that is nice and snug and will hang indoors, so did not putty.  But I have now decided to give it as a gift and would like to firm it up a bit by puttying, but I'm wondering if already waxing the panel will cause the putty to maybe not adhere in the channels like it should?  Maybe I should leave well enough alone and forget puttying...any input is appreciated!!!

I suspect not much wax would have gotten into the channels where the putty will be. I'd say go for it. I can't see how it could hurt anything.
