Hi akcheriekelly,  Welcome

On behalf of the AOG team, we would like to extend a warm welcome and we are glad you decided to join our forum. If you need any assistance, please feel free to ask any member, we are more than happy to assist you.

To ensure our membership roster is up to date with active members, and as per the membership agreement, please be aware that inactive members that have been absent from the forum for 180 days will automatically have their membership removed.

Out of curiosity, how did you hear of us and ultimately find us and could you please let us know what type or types of glass (Cold/Warm/Hot) you enjoy doing?

One thing more - the only stupid question is the one that does not get asked.

Enjoy!

AOG Team

Hi, Alan,
THanks for the welcome.  You asked how I learned about AOG.  My friend, Judy Killian, from Healy, AK, told me that my questions (that I was flooding her with) would find answers here!  Praise the Lord!  I applied and was accepted.  I have done a 22 piece mosiac style, stained glass Mysteries of the Rosary, that is hanging in the Catholic grade and high school's chapel, here in Fairbanks.  I did a 15 x 3' mosiac counter top for a day spa here, I did a two piece 14" x 44" depiction of the Holy Family's Flight into Egypt, the Cross and Ressurection for our deacon's office at the cathedral, and a window for a church "in the Alaskan Bush" in Stebbens, AK.  Now I have a commission for two windows, 23 1/2" x 48 7/8 " each.  They are going on the inside of an Arctic Entry of the church in Ruby, AK.  The windows are ones that have an opening mechinasm handle in the sill and casement.  The windows open and screens are attached to the frame of the casement--to keep out the Alaskan state bug, the mosquito, out of the church.  The subjects are St. Peter in Chains and The Holy Family.

I have questions about how to attach the pieces to the windows.  My husband says, "No problem, we'll screw the frame of the stained glass to the windows".  "Or, we'll use those screen attachments around your stained glass."  I'm not sure.  Also, I was trying to decide if I needed to brace the windows I make with rebar and if the rebar is soldered in the glass body or in the frame in front of the glass...I was thinking I'd use lead came but think it will make the stained glass pieces too heavy for the application so I think I'll use foil.  What do you think? I welcome your input and thank you for the welcome.

Hi Cherie,

Copy most of this about your window project and go to the heading "Lead / Foil".

Above the second yellow box of titles you will see "New Topic". Hit that and post your questions. You have described your installation ideas to me over the phone and I really don't know what to say with out seeing photos. So if you can get some photos of the frame so we can discuss the best idea for you. That would be great.

To post photos you click on "Additional Options". Then "Choose File". This will prompt you to select a photo from your deck top.

Good Luck! You will have the hang of using a glass Forum in no time. There are hundreds of "threads" here, that is what we call each subject that is posted, full of information . You could read old posts for weeks and still not come to the end of it.
