Okay I have mastered the 12 point star (thanks to Joan and Rebecca) and now would like to try a 18 point. does anybody have the directions for one of these. I have looked everywhere with no luck. I guess I could buy a kit but wanted to use regular glass not bevels.

Wow, you are a glutton for punishment aren't you?

The only thing I found was a flea market find that is for sale on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Moravian-18-pt-Star-Leaded-Glass-Hanging-Light-Fixture-/400233368661

It has several pretty good close ups - maybe a pattern could be made from those - really dunno.

As far as assembly instructions - mmmmmmmmmm - nope - think maybe you gonna have to wing it  Duck

A long time ago (more than 50 years ago) I did something similar to this out of light weight cardboard - not real hard, but very time consuming. Think this example has 15 points.

Di, I am pretty sure Rebecca has done these stars.  Can't wait to see what she has to say.

I have done these stars and also a 25 point one.  But I almost missed this post because it wasn't highlighted as unread.  I wonder why?  Anyway, I will dig out my instructions and see if I can write something up.

I looked in my file cabinet and pulled out a fat file that was labeled "Stars."  There was not a single star in it!  I have an 18-point star kit here and I pulled it out and looked at it.  I know I made one several years ago, but I don't remember how.  From looking at it, it looks like you make the 12-point star that I posted directions for, then add the extra six points in between the others.  If I can get some one to foil the kit, I will see if I can put it together and take pictures.

This one says it is an "open" star.  Is the one you have open or closed?

I dont have a kit just the picture I posted and it looks like its opened. But either would help as I think the 18 is really pretty. I cant figure where to but 6 more points on a 12 so there must be a little different procedure. Thanks for your help.

Oops!  It's upside down, but it isn't any easier to read right side up.

Last night I had a student come for a two-hour class.  She is pretty independent, so I started making one of these stars from the kit.  I start with a Square on a piece of paper to be sure my angles are correct.

I edge foil and edge bead everything, then put four pieces around the square and put a good glob of solder at each corner.

Four of the extra points fit onto the four original pieces like this.

Then I solder two of the other pieces together, placing them on the square so the angles will be right (and correct.)

Then put them upright on the pieces that are already together.

Then add the other two pieces and turn over to work on the other side.

That's when I ran out of time, so I will try to finish it and post more soon.

Thanks for that Rebecca - especially for those of us who have to cut it from scratch!
