for Martha!   She's been nagging for this for about 2 years....and I eventually decided it was going to be easier to make this than repair her lampshade just now.   Not one of my favorites from those I've done - but it's getting difficult to design entirely new whirls for Martha, as by my calculations, this is at least her 10th one.   Hope she likes it.

Wow, that's fantastic, I was wondering what you meant by a whirl - I have never seen something like this made from glass before :)

Thanks everyone,  hope Martha likes it as much as you do!
@ Rosemary - Well, as always I'm 'out of fashion'.   It seems that these were popular in the States quite a while back.   I saw a picture of one in a Glass Patterns Quarterly magazine back when I first started S.G. (dated 1989)  - and fell in love with the concept.  I managed to get hold of Deborah Aubin's book (she was the creator of 'the whirl'), and have since added a couple more, - although I have, in truth only done about 2 whirls from her books, I think.   I prefer creating my own little worlds!   I have made it a condition with Martha that if I repair her big lamp shade,  I get to visit her and see and photograph all her whirls!  Quite a few pre-dated digital camera's and I never thought to take pictures for posterity!

Oh Beth, this is just great.  You incorporate so much into your whirls - you should have done a book on these too!
