No, I'm not posting a personal ad!

I've been using up some scrap glass and the bazillion glass nuggets that I have stacked around my glass hole.

Last year I made some little butterflies out of scraps and nuggets for my little friend's 8th birthday (a picture is in my gallery).
Someone saw it, and asked to buy one off of me! Yippee! My first sale!
Then the same lady asked me to make one with dragonflies to give as a gift to her Mom. No problem! I was more than happy to collect money while cleaning out some more scraps and nuggets!

They're super easy to make since you don't really need to follow much of a pattern. Pretty cheap since I just used scrap glass. Fast to make, too! And believe it or not, they're darn sturdy if you strategically place the glass nuggets within and around the piece. I used a lot of iridescent glass and nuggets, so it looks cool without light shining through it.

I just thought I'd share this since I'm so freaking excited about making a second sale! Woo hoo!
Big, fancy art? No!
Fun? Oh heck yeah!

Those are right purty Gwen!  Glad that you posted them!  And big congratulations on your sale!  I'm not surprised that people liked them very much!  They're very pretty!  Amazing what can be created using up our scraps huh!

Thank ya much! I'm pretty excited to say that I now have a repeat customer! Sure, she's been my ONLY customer, but it sure does sound good, huh?
And she doesn't know me, that's the coolest part. She bought 'em just because she liked them!

Good news! I posted a picture of this on my MySpace page, and one of my friends offered to buy it! How cool is that? I let her know that it's SOLD (that feels really good to type!) but I'd be willing to make one for her in exchange for baby formula. I'm not too proud to barter!

Give it a shot, Audrey!
Just draw up a simple design that you can easily repeat,
solder the little guys together,
and then just arrange them until you like the look of the base
then solder the pieces together.
Then just add more and more nuggets until your piece is nice and sturdy.
Viola! You've got a sort of abstract glass collage!
It's fun, and easy enough to do in an afternoon.
Just make sure you show us the results!

I imagine that I can use up a bunch of scraps by making more butterflies, dragonflies, flowers, maybe even birds and fish.

Gwen, did you know that because of the economy bartering is becoming a way of life in the country again?  There was a discussion on one of the news net works saying that because people are finding it hard to make ends meet that they are doing it as a way of using cash or credit cards to get some things they want or need

I have no idea how I managed to get this into a separate thread... dunno what I did!
Moderators, if you feel that it's necessary to move it to my original thread, I won't be offended!

We do a lot of bartering around here! I learned it from my husband. He does a lot of design work for some local bands. If he does flyers, CD covers or T-shirt designs, we get on the guest lists at shows, free CDs, free T-shirts, sometimes even free drinks at the venue! It's not huge compensation, but even the most successful local bands don't have a lot of money to throw around, so having a good time is a nice exchange!

Bartering has helped us get our roof repaired after Hurricane Ike hit us in September (really! 80+ mph winds... in landlocked Ohio!), got one of our broken basement steps fixed, and it will soon help me get a nice workbench for my glass work!

Those are really nice Gwen. You got me to wondering if I should make things with my scraps OR continue to nip em' smaller and do mosaic classes as I have been doing? Hummmmm

Hmmm.  Gets me thinking about all those scraps I have, too.  Very clever idea, Gwen.  This site rocks!

I'm not kidding when I say this... but I just "sold" another one of these! A friend saw these dragonflies hanging in my window (before I packed it up... it's on it's way to Florida on Monday!) and asked to buy it off of me. Seriously, 3 sales from my "scrapperflies?" Words can't describe how excited I feel about this!

But at the same time... I'm like, hey!... it took me 9 months to draw up my Koi fish and finally complete it (which I think is SUPER COOL to see up in the right-hand corner of this forum!) and people are wanting to buy a piece that took me 5 minutes to draw up and an afternoon to finish. I'm not really complaining, but sheesh! The koi was a labor of love, the dragonflies were just a fun way to make a few dollars! Oh well, I like doing it ALL!

I'm glad it's given some people ideas on using up some scraps, I know we've all got them!

I absolutely love the Koi. I had been looking for a good koi pattern, but nothing compared to yours. Beautiful colors.

Thank you so much, Audrey! It took me a looong time to draw it, and even longer to get the courage to start it.
I pulled lots of reference photos of tattoos for that drawing!
