These just came out of the kiln. I wanted a fun little thing I could use for my first time doing a contour fuse.
THIS IS SO MUCH FUN.
I was very happy with the results and used the schedule from the system96 website.
Only question... I used kiln wash on the shelf but the piecies were not really as smooth on the shelf side as I thought they would be. Would I get a smoother finish on the bottom if I used shelf paper instead of kiln wash?

Awwwh those are adorable! I just love anything fishy. I wish I could help with the kiln wash vs paper ?...but I'm sure that a warm glasser will be along directly that can answer the question. I think they look GREAT! And are oh so cute!

Cute!
The shelf side of your glass will never be as smooth as the air side. The trick is to make your kiln wash as smooth as possible when you apply it by either running you hand lightly over it or giving it a spray with warm water....I think that's one of Stephen's tricks. You can use Thinfire but it can run into money. Kiln wash is cheap!

Would be interested in knowing the details of the spraying with warm water. Lightly all over with spray bottle? Sounds like something I would want to try in the future. I will try running my hand lightly over the kiln wash when it dries and see what happend next time. It looked smooth but....
I was not really anxious to use the paper because of the cost factor.
These little fishies have endless possibilities for color, easy and fun to make. I think the grandchildren will be wanting them when they see.

I also got to drill holes with my dremil. I love the results I get and it seems to be the easiest way for me to do it. Neat idea I did was use the braided string for hanging, tied knots in the ends, tied it for hanging leaving some extra hanging down and put 2 small sinkers on the ends for looks.

these are really cute. I do something similar and even though the paper is more expensive that's what I use. It want the smoothness and I found my shelf rarely gives me the look I want.

Thanks all for the nice compliments. I have enjoyed finding out things from people that know lots more than I do right now. Probally will have other questions as time goes by. Something new to learn every day.
I am going to try the hints but will resort to paper if I just don't like the results.
I have been trying to do kiln work lately instead of panels untill I feel comfortable with it.
It's that pratice...pratice...pratice thing till you get it right.... then the most important thing I have heard about...... THE KILN MONSTOR takes over and....what the heck happened to it?????
