Awesome lamp no doubt but I think it's all in how you're taught, I learned foil first but the lady here teaches lead first then foil then lamps or lamps then foil I don't remember. I think if I did a lamp first I might have ran in the other direction and not returned for a long time lol.
On that note....can you post a larger picture of the lamp?

Thanks Joe, Kev, Malinda, I really didn't have any idea what I was getting myself into... if I knew, I may not have done it... but I am so glad I did! The teacher was very patient with us. This was many many years ago. My boyfriend at the time thought it would be great fun for us to take this tiffany lamp shade class at a studio. This was before grinders were as prevalent as they are now. We used carborundum stones to smooth the edges before foiling. You can see how rough my work is, especially in the detail view... I did learn a lot though and am happy that it was my first project.
The next class we took at the same studio was a leaded window; a small one and much more simple, lol.
Since then, I have been in and out of making glass items, but the love and fascination is always there.
=) Mary

What Tre said! You must have had a great teacher Mary, lucky you! And I look at the wonderful box you sent me in one of our exchanges - that's another place I don't go either. You're doing really nice work.

I LOVE your lamp Maribeth! I agree, what a first project huh? But it's all just cutting glass and soldering it together no matter what the shape right? You used some really nice glass in that, and I'm waaaay impressed that you didn't use a grinder..just the carborundum stone. Yikes.

Shocked to learn you took on a lamp for the first project. Way more adventuresome than I. It took two years for me to attempt one. But yours turned out spectacular!!!

Thank you De and glasisfun, I didn't have a clue what was involved when I started the class but I really loved making it from the first day... and it was good practice. And so true De, it's all just cutting and soldering. =)
=) Thanks again!

Memaribeth, you did a wonderful job on those pieces. When we don't know something is hard a head of time we just move along and do the job at hand, right.
My first class was a suncatcher and week 2 I started my 1st panel that I drew the design for. It was 24x18. Everyone in the class kept saying things like wow you are to brave that is to many pieces for me. LOL. I didn't like fidleing around with little pieces like suncatchers, while they did. To each his own, right.

Thank you Joan, and you are so right. I'm glad I didn't know that I should have been daunted by this new venture. ohhh, I would love to see that first panel if you have a picture! I really like your bevels with red panel. I enjoyed watching your progress and when it was finished it was/is so beautiful!
smiles!
