Questions on insurance on shipments for SG

I recent had a long conversation with another member regarding exactly how much insurance to put on shipping a finished piece of stained glass (example: panel)
As you all know not only do we charge for design work and use of the supplies, but our time to assemble the piece for sale.
I was told way back that if you insured the piece for the sale price you would not necessarily get that amount because they would only pay for the cost of replacing the supplies.
Has anyone ever had to file an insurance claim, and if so did you get paid for the entire amount you purchased the insurance for?

Sometimes they will claim that the insurance is just to insure that it is delivered and will only pay when it is lost. I have had two students who had things broken by UPS. Both were able to collect after MUCH hassle. One asked me to give her a written estimate of the worth of the item. (Both were lamp shades that they had made.) They had to call and call and call, but both did finally receive the entire amount.

The only insurance you can count on is bullet-proof packaging.

True enough, you can make if fool proof, but you can't make it damn fool proof - 'cause some damn fool will find a way to break it!

Sounds like you've had some experience with the "Cargo Apes".
Words like "Fragile" or "Handle With Care" are seen as challenges.
