Actually I just got back from buying some 1x2 red oak that I am going to stain with a stain called "Early American".

LOL Kev, Early American is what we stained the entire woodwork in our house when it was first built.  Ahhh, I know it well.  Now most of it it getting a coat of paint as I had too much stained woodwork.  But it is certainly a beautiful color!
