My husband does a lot of woodworking and I often go with him to his favorite store for buying wood designed for cabinets and furniture. Last summer I saw some purple heart wood and just loved the unusual color and the even texture of the wood. It has been collecting dust in his shop and after having been moved from one place to another in his shop, I put together this window to be framed in the wood.
I bought these dichroic glass bevels before Christmas, planning on making a snowflake sun catcher out of them (well, never got to that project). I used them here instead as in certain light they reflect a purple color that goes with the frame. I don't do everything in bevels, just trying to use up what I have in my cutting table so I can make room for more glass.
I am posting pics of the glass with light through it without the frame and one against a white background with the frame so you can see the very unusual purple heart frame. Just finished this piece. Now I have more room in my work space by using pieces I had laying around and he has more room in his shop as the wood has finally become something.

Very beautiful! There is something to be said for these types of designs...I love them, though have never actually made one. You did an awesome job with it! Love the dichroic touch and the frame is fantastic!

I have boxes of bevels that have been sitting on my shelf for years too. I should design something to used them up so I too have more room.

It is foil. I have done a few lead pieces, but come back to foil each time.

I love your use of Purple Heart for the frame. My DH is also a woodworker and the projects he uses it for always turn out to be among my favorites.

I too love the color of the wood, it works nicely with the panel. Great use of the dichroic glass bevels.

It is foil. I have done a few lead pieces, but come back to foil each time.
I hear you, that's my preference too!

Very nice! Love the framing material! This reminds me that I have a very non exciting panel I did with a large bevel in the center that has a broken piece in it. I never did like what I'd done with it..so this gives me encouragement (when I get started on all of the repairs I need to do) to think more creatively when I design something else for the bevel.
Great job with it! De

I just realized this center bevel is VERY close to one of the bevels I am using for a cabinet door, how wild is that. I do love this with the additional borders to it too.
