What kind of iron did you get Kev?  Has anyone tried the new Hakko with the temperature control on the handle?

I looked at that one, but figured it might just be something more to break or malfunction making the whole iron useless, so opted for the other one Hakko 456 I think with a separate controller.

I like the 456 and have used two of them for years.  I quit using a controller with mine years ago.  But I have heard good things about the new one.  I think I will try one.

Productive day today. I got it all soldered, and the patina applied. I'm letting the patina set over night before waxing it, then I'll apply the hooks and chain. The color looks a little off in the pic. The border is the color as shown on the right side of the pic and all the Tulips are cherry red like the center one.

Overall I quite happy with it. I used Goof off to clean the adhesive off of the zinc from where I taped it to get nice corner solder joints. I then went over all of the zinc with it, then rinsed it off. When I applied the patina, it turned jet black. Had I not rubbed it a few times it would have been perfectly black. I guess the trick is to apply it and not go over it again. It's the best results I have have with regular black Novacan patina for lead, used on zinc.

Nice balance, lovely lines, colors are bright without being neon. Very nice, as usual :)

Nice job Kev!  I'll have to give the "goof off" a try on zinc the next time I use it.  Usually I have to do a coat of solder on the zinc to get a uniform black look with patina.

Looks beautiful!
