This is a commissioned piece I am currently working on that is an original pattern of mine called Spring Bliss. If I remember correctly this version is 15" x 24".

I actually had a chance to get it started yesterday. It feels so good to get the lead out again...it's quite enjoyable. The colored version are the intended colors.

Looking good Kev. Its been a while since you made a panel. I love this and cant wait to make it, I have 4 more pieces to cut for the cabinet insert and hopefully  after finishing the 3 other started projects I can get to this.

Spring Bliss is very nice!  Love the rich color of the intended red color, that really makes if POP.

It coming along great Kev. It is so easy to cut I did most of it with the strip cutter. The glass room has been so cold I only go down for a while and today it is going down to zero again its 19 right now.

The Joy pattern is a simplified version of the original Bliss pattern with some other sight changes to the positioning of the Crocus, and less circular lines in it.

Ok...I'm a little puzzled....or ignorant..LOL

Having not done a lot of lead panels, I still have more to learn. What I have done in lead, I've cut the glass and leaded as I went along,....how can you cut out all the pieces for a lead panel ahead of time? How can you be sure it's going to fit right? Just curious, as I've had to make adjustments sometimes to pieces as I went along. So far this one is going great. I'm really taking my time cutting it and it's making a difference. Also, cutting the glass on the inside of the tracing line has helped a lot as well.

I don't know how Malinda does it, but I assemble it with the big aluminum push pins between the glass pieces.  I make sure that the pins will pass between the glass everywhere and that is about the right amount of space.  Sometimes I cut and assemble as I go, like you do.

if your patterns lines are the same thickness as the lead then it's no problem. I traced using the light box when necessary and cut the pieces out to the inside of the line. technically, if done right it should all go together fine. I will grind here and there, maybe not everywhere if not necessary. :)

I guess that makes sense. I like the idea of using the pins to simulate the heart of the came..that's a good idea!

Thanks for the follow-up to the question guys!

I usually make sure that my pattern lines are the same thickness as the "heart" of the lead...which in my case means I extimate...by using a thicker than usual Sharpie to make sure the lines are thicker than you'd expect to see if you were doing a foiled panel.
Then I cut out all of the pieces and make sure that they fit within the pattern lines..that usually gives me the clearance necessary when I start adding the lead.  Once in awhile I need to grind a piece here or there to fit, but I've had good luck with my process.

I like Rebecca's idea with the pins!
