This is a fairly new design and will be a new undertaking for me. I plan on doing this design in lead, which means that it will need rebar reinforcement because it's going to be so large. I've had many conversations with more than few people who have had experience with some large panels. And armed with all of the knowledge they've been kind enough to share with me...biting nails..I'm going to make an attempt at it.
I won't be making any $$ on this one, but this will be paying back a very nice Dentist who has done alot of work on one of my children's teeth at no charge to them. Believe me when I say that said child..adult really..will be helping me in the construction of the panel. And I hope that an appreciation for the art of stained glass will ensue..maybe..maybe not..but some learning will happen. LOL.
The opening we're trying to fill is 4' H x 7' W, the panel will be designed to be 3' H x 6' W. It will have 1/4" round vertical rebar placed every 18" or so across the length of the panel for stability, and will have wire ties attaching the panel to the rebar.
Right now, we're still in the design and color selection phase..I think that upon showing the design to the client today the design won't change much, but the colors chosen probably will. She has very definite ideas of what she wants does our Dentist. LOL. It will be my pleasure to accomodate her wishes. She's been very kind.

This will definitely be a great panel. To have your daughter helping out will be fun too and I'm sure the dentist will love the outcome.

Are you framing it in wood? What will stabilize the saddle bars?

Yes, it will be framed in oak framing material..I'm going to look around to see if I can find someone that can build me a substantial frame for this..one that will give me the allowance to drill for the rebar.
