I took the plunge yesterday and tried my hand at making some pattern bars. This is what I came up with.

Funny how hind site is always 20/20. I would have been better off buying a saw that could cut bricks as then I could have cut thicker pattern bars. The one I bought only cuts up to 1" thick. I would have loved to slice a 1/4" strip off the face of the multicolored bar...oh well...no real regrets..I can still be creative with smaller pieces.

They are dusty in the pic from the fiber cloth that was wrapped around them. They are still cooling at this time. The smaller bar is amber cathedral, almond opal and black on the edges. The larger one from the center out is: Khaki, white, pink, grape, green, black.

They look good. What saw do you have? I made a pattern bar & don't have anything but a tile saw to cut it up with & still haven't done it yet.

I bought a tile saw as well from Harbor Freight. There is a post on it called "New Toy". I bought a glass cutting blade for it, and plan on cutting the pattern bars into pieces and using the pieces in other creations.

Hmmm.. if you could take some design techniques for polymer clay, and apply them to glass bars....wish I had some knowledge about kiln glass...

Kev,
Did you get the 4", 7" or 10" saw?

I bought a 7" saw which will cut a max depth verticle cut of 1", and a beveled cut max 1". A 10 inch one would allow for thicker cuts.

They might work, but then what do I do with them?...LOL I can't fuse them to anything as they would slump and lose their shape.

You don't have to do anything with them!  Sell them just like they are to put in a candy dish.  I've seen other glass candies out there and they can be a very cool decorator item.
