I saw the discussion and instructions for making a wire hanger/harness for round/oval panels and am not sure I understand it - is that just for items that are finished with lead came?
I steer away from round/oval panels because of the finishing issue - I don't have a came bender and prefer to finish with zinc for stability.
For my square/rectangle panels, I miter the corners of the zinc then drill holes in the side pieces, near the top but below the soldered corner, and use a key chain split ring in the hole and to hold the chain. I know there are many different "right" ways to do this (and usually a matter of opinion), but is there a reason I should use a different method for a hanging panel?

Tanya:
I think the best reason to change what you're doing is because you've found something you like better. You believe that it will work better for you either mechanically or aesthetically (or both).
It sounds like your system works fine. Do you feel the need to change?
You have set certain criteria for how you judge your finished work. Those criteria probably inlcude how you like the line and color combinations in the piece, how well they satisfy your vision and/or that of a customer. They probably also include what sort of look you want for the finishing elements, framing and hanging materials for example.
It's right to keep seeking better methods; good luck. - Tod

I agree with Todd.
We do what works well for us. When it doesn't, or if we see something we consider an improvement over what we are currently doing, we change our techniques. It's a constant evaluation/learning process.
My understanding is that the sling technique is used for lead not zinc. I've personally used that technique myself and love the finished look as well as the fact that it gives great support for the piece.
The nice thing about this and other forums, is that we can see and evaluate different ways of doing things, while learning from the mistakes or successes of others who have already tried a process or technique.
It's questions like this that evoke discussion pertaining to the main reason for the existence of this forum to begin with, .."Glass". It's a passion we all share, otherwise we would not be here to begin with.

Totally agree with both Tod & Kev. If something works for you - why fix it??? - unless you find something that works better! This is what is so wonderful about the forum - there are always different ideas out there to make one think.....
Thanks for that, guys 'n girls!
