Can anyone recommend a good set of mosaic nippers? I got a pair in a mosaic beginner kit a few years back -- basic nippers shown on this page

http://www.mosaicmercantile.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/tools_and_accessories.html?L+scstore+cqqr6104ff8c758c+1294300722

and I'm not sure these are what I should be using with scrap glass. I used them for about an hour earlier tonight and I had difficulty getting consistent results (sometimes they cut nicely and other times I had shards flying -- not looking for uniform shape just consistency in how they cut).

any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The most popular pair is the Leponitt brand.  Most mosaic places sell them.

Those are great nippers that Wayne suggested.  I have those now and love them.  My first pair was a cheaper brand and I was always having problems with them...these are great! :)

I agree about Leponitt.  Well made and easy on the hands.

I have the Leponitt and also some cheaper brands.  None of them give consistent results and all of them give me blisters.  Two things I did to help the blisters is wear gloves and slip the "Cutter Cozy" made to cushion pencil cutters over the handles.  Actually, I cut one Cutter Cozy in half and slipped half over each handle.  I have an older Leponitt that is too big for my hand, but the newer ones are okay.  Bohle also makes good ones, but both Bohle and Leponitt are now made in Taiwan.

good point about the gloves Rebecca, didn't think of them until this morning when I saw the blister... not sure why either because the slice I got on my palm putting glass away kept nagging me while I was doing it...

I'll have to look around Toni's desk, she probably has a few of those pencil grippers left and I doubt she'll miss them until she sees them upstairs :-)

Do a little experimenting with them too. I found if I nip with one side I get an inside curve. With the other and outside curve. I also need to tighten my wheel on a regular basis. The wheel nippers are a great tool

I have the red handled ones, IDK what brand they are but they work perfectly fine for me. I do notice I constantly have to tighten the wheels down and I think tha'ts very odd but what do I know :) I never tried to get super exacty with them but I'm sure with practice anything is possible.

Oh and I too put the grip cushions on the handles because it killed my hands, definatly takes some time to build up the strength and all for nipping alot of glass at each sitting.

thanks guys -- I will definitely be getting a pair of wheeled nippers this year... until then I'll try and have Toni work with mostly spectrum glass because that seemed to not shatter as much as some of the others did..
