I got the thing home, opened it only to find a warning that said "fire hazard" right on the directions. Imagine, this light was manufactured and distributed by "GE" and it did have the UL tag on it, which used to mean it was safe.
companies do this to save themselves from lawsuits. In this sue everyone for everything age (I blame the courts for awarding that lady a settlement who put a hot coffee cup between her legs while driving. Sorry she was just plain stupid and didn't deserve to be rewarded for it) companies try to protect themselves as best they can.
that may or may not be true, however, I have purchased several lights of all types and styles and have never, ever, not even once, (including this manufacturer) seen such a warning printed in red bold letters, except for the sockets of lamps which restrict the size of the watts you should use for a light bulb
