I took some time yesturday to try out the oval Glasslink molds from Colour de Verre. I waited to try the molds so that I could order some MR-97 mold release and the connectors to join the links and have everything ready to go from start to finish.  I set everything up a few days ago to get started...had my molds prepped (2 light coats of MR-97), laid out my frit, got my scale out and....dead batteries.    Thankfully I only had to search a couple of stores to find the right size and I was back on track!    Since I had never used these molds before I was really just trying to get a "feel" for them and how they fired so this piece is nothing to write home about! It's a touch on the plain side.  I was pleased with the way the links and focal piece came out of the molds...the MR-97 is really sweet!  The glass is smooth, has a low shine and there were absolutely no spurs. Now that I've done a test run I think I'm more comfortable with moving on to something with a little more "wow"!
I didn't totally connect this piece as I want to add a few more links to it but you'll get the idea!  Has anyone else tried these yet?

I dont think they need more Wow I like them they way they are. I seen these molds and thought they were a great idea. I'm sure you will come up with a lot of Wow for these. But I like the basic black.

You did a great job making these Becki.

Honestly, I'm not much of a fan of this mold. I prefer their other molds.

Thanks, guys.

Kev, I don't care what anyone says nobody "loves" everything all the time!  It's refreshing to hear an honest opinion whether it's about the glass or the mold!

well I DO like them.  I'm allergic to metals, this is the only kind of jewellery I could wear as long as the clasp was glass too. I may have to buy this mold.  Looking forward to seeing what you do with these on a wow Becki. I like the black and clear too.

I don't believe I would look twice at it this way. But like you said it was all about experimenting at this point.

I could see using it with beads and wire. The big chain thing does nothing for me.  But I could see using 2 wires wrapping in and out of the rings with beads in between and in the centers of the circles I would probably use no more than three circles per necklace, so that they would really pop.

This has potential.

There's a fine line between honesty and...........well, you know!

I like them too, Anne. Chunky jewelry seems to be the thing right now.  No, it's not for everyone but there is a market for it!  I’ll do a few more for my pals at CDV then move on...I’m really not into making jewelry but they work hard on their molds and designs and have wonderful products so I’ll work at it for awhile.  I have some ideas for some non-jewelry pieces that I’d like to try with these molds.

In case anyone is interested the molds and project sheets can be found at  http://www.colourdeverre.com/index.php
The connectors can be found at JP Glassworks, http://jpglassworks.com/store/index.php?cPath=30

Don’t hold back, Judy...tell me what you really think!

I am, by no means, a jewelry artist and don’t really plan to be. This wasn’t really an experiment but a first run on a mold that I’ve never used.  As with any new mold on a first firing I tend to keep it simple and watch what’s happening. With the finished product I basically wanted to show the fired links and hopefully give some of the others ideas of what can be done with them.  I have seen wonderful things done with these links (check out the CDV site and their FB site) and the various findings available to jewelry makers...lots of possibilities and configurations.  I can also see possibilities for design elements in non jewelry items.  We’re only limited by our imagination!

I thought you liked honesty, my statement was not made with any intent to ruffle your feathers, and I apologize if I did.

I do honestly see potential in this mold.

I do, indeed...no apology necessary.  The feathers are fine!

Interesting, I haven't looked at the mold yet but I'm interested to see how these are all connected with each other.
"We’re only limited by our imagination!" So true Becki......
