Starting a new project today, it's actually something I've been thinking about for the last month but I took my time in picking out the glass. I had the color concept in my head and opted to keep the texture to a minimum and the colors aren't exactly high contrast so the pieces are going to be larger then the color pencil drawing. So here are some pics of the origional drawing, the pattern and the glass I'm using. I put the glass in the window but everything going to for the wall mirror so it'll be richer and deeper. Also the mirror is convex so it's going to be a really funky touch. For reinforcement I'm thinking of doing rebar in an 'X' on the back, hoping that should work to prevent any slumping down the road.

So I did all my cutting and I'm one square short !! What can I do? I'd hate to have to wait to get another square foot of glass for the silly little piece that I need, any ideas??

Put a color in that's totally different somewhere within the pattern.

I thought I was the only one that did that! I love the colors though. And I agree with Kev..take out 4 or 5 squares someplace and put in something else.

Clear textured glass or bevels in each corner? Or shorten it up one row at the top and one row at the bottom?

I do have some other glass that I can use... I think I'll do that. Thanks everyone! It's such a stupid thing to have happen, and Tre V, I'm so glad you said that *LOL!!!

Yikes! Short one square? Looks like you've got some good suggestions all ready, so my idea of throwing a temper tantrum is no longer needed!
It's going to be pretty, it all ready looks pretty and it doesn't even have light shining through!

You have a ton of hinges in this one, Amber. Let's see how you handle them all.

That can be avoided by "weaving" restrip. Strip goes two squares in one direction skip the joint go two more squares. Going in the other direction do the same thing. You'll end up with a super strength project.Everywhere the lines cross, there's a re-strip going through either horizontally or vertically.

That's fantastic Graham!!!! Thanks, I never would have thought of weaving the restrip and Kev's right, that goodie should be put somewhere for everyone else to find down the road!

Constructing this with lead and weaving it in the same pattern Graham shows for the restrip would also work. In addition, lead's consistent size tends to compliment regular designs like this one and it would be much faster to fabricate than foil. 2ยข Tod

If I new how to work with lead and had the tools then it'd be great, unfortunately I fall short *l. I'd like to do lessons in lead but my local shop doesn't work with it at all so they don't have any workshops for it. They don't really do much for larger work and they don't use rebar or zinc framing either. I have bookmarked a site that has an online tutorial for lead but I really like the idea of learning from someone face to face, they can watch my technique as I work and give accurate critique on what I should do instead.... something I can't get from a book. Maybe one day I'll be adventurous enough to try it on my own, that or because I move often, military wife, I can hope the next place I live will have the lessons I need. *sigh*, till then I'm a foil girl *L.
