I don't remember what temperature you fired the flat piece to. But if you take it up to the maximum recommended full fuse temperature plus 10C degrees you will get a very flat rounded apperance for each mosaic piece. Also if you barely or underfill the spaces with powder it gives the other glass more space to move. You might think about using a gray powder to reduce the starkness of the space between pieces. An about a brown powder for the dusty look.
But opf course, it is your piece.

Thanks for the feedback Stephen. I was wondering if I added less powder if it would allow the glass to spread more, but having not used the powder before, I expected it to lose volume when it melted and then allow for the movement...apparently not..lol. My top temp was 1465 with a 20 min hold. I did get a bit of devit on the powdered areas, but I can always blast that off, so that's not a real issue to me. I was also concerned about the base glass coming up into the spaces in an attempt to reach 1/4"..I guess it's a fine line to get the right balance.
I'll have to pick up some other colored powered frit and give them a try.

Try 804C for only 10 mins. more heat for more flow. Only 10 mins to reduce opportunity for devit.

I really like that Kev! I think I'd opt for "dirt" free though. LOL. But it is very cool!
