As I said last Christmas - this one has been bubbling along on the back burner for several years!   So I choose to actually do it when I actually should be doing wedding  stuff - like the wedding cake for instance..... Go figure!!
As anyone who has tried to photograph the inside figures in  a whirl will know - it's not easy to do......so if anyone wants to know anything,/can't see anything, please ask.
I created a 'grid' of welding rods for the 'floor' as I could'nt place the figures securely within the curved base,   but then the palm trees created too much weight on one side,  so I added the green nuggets on the opposite side to try to regain balance.   Not sure if I really like them there,  I kind of liked the simplicity of the grid  - but not going to try and take them out!!!   In truth,  I think I prefer it standing than hung up anyway!
Anything more that I do before Christmas will be tiny stuff,  as after being notified that the Christmas Fair  I attended last year was not going to happen this year,  I sent out some e-mailed pics of my Christmas stuff to regular customers.   This has generated more business than I expected , - and then lo-and-behold-  I 'm told that the Fair IS on in a better and more accessible venue!   Oh well - I have enough whirls and general stock in hand so that the stall will not look bare - and will be able to retain my place for next year - when all the weddings are a thing of the past!!
Never the less - I will be watching eagerly to see what all of you are doing!!

Wow Elizabeth, I love it!  LA's right, what patience you have.  This turned out beautifully, I wouldn't have changed a thing about it.

Terrific detail..what on earth did you use for one of the wise men's hair?  Too cool!

Thanks everyone.  Yup - for me, fiddly is sometimes therapy - I can loose myself in the details  - much cheaper than a therapist,  and more fun!!
The hair is brass ( 'Goldilocks' is the local brand name) pot scourer.   For the wiseman I ran solder over it so that I could lightly patina it.   I'm just hoping that it will not rust or disintegrate.   I'm doubting that I will actually be able to sell this any time soon (our customers are not prepared to pay as well as over your way!!),   but am happy to keep it for 'show' - and for myself!   The big whirls are generally slow movers,  but they do attract people to my stand -  and like they say - there's a buyer for every item - - - EVENTUALLY! smiley

I wouldn't worry about the nuggets, it's fantastic and will be an instant hit.

Oh yes!  I love my Hakko!  I just feels right - and is small enough to get inside a whirl to solder.   Some of my previous irons just would'nt fit into the confined space.

I'm just guessin' but the standard whirl has a "circular center" maybe 7" or 8" in diam,
so those little pieces are really little!
