Fusing with transparent colors question

I didn't think that transparent colors would take over like the opaque ones!! I spent days mixing a beautiful granite green for a new box. I just got it out of the kiln and you can hardly tell it is green!! It looks black!! I used about five different greens....from med to light. What have I done wrong??

Transparent colors when stacked on each other will look black because of the density of color. Only when light can pass through them will they be their true color. Because of the thickness of the box and lack of light transmission through it, it will look black. I believe opals work best for this type of project unless your using clear and other very pale cathedrals.

Transparent glass needs light coming through it to see the color. It you have to many layers the light will not travel through it. If it does not have light inside the box it will not glow. Good Idea though.
Use a bunch of clear with a pinch of your mixed greens and see if you like that better.

Good timing Kev. I hit the
send
button at almost the same time, but I got the
red
message that slowed down the time stamp by 19 seconds.

There is another way too. Go to the bullseye site and you will see there is a description of how to make colour tests for frit. Essentially you cast a wedge of clear and coloured frit at various proportions, say 10%, 20%, 30% and you will have a check for various thicknesses of each of the proportions.
