Eventually got my daughter's panel finished - well sort of!   I'm not very happy with the chain border - whatever the chain (the only chain I could find!) is made of does not solder well and the result looks lumpy and untidy.   When I can get my hands on some H-came,  I think I will strip  the chain off and put a came border.   I was initially disappointed when I hung this in the window yesterday (an overcast,  but bright day),  as the darker glass I had to use on the lower left and right sides showed up more than I had expected!   (the joys of having to work with what you have on hand!),  but the 'night-time' view was more as I had envisioned.......
I completed the panel with the dove, patina'd and polished - then over- layed/plated (??not sure of the correct term) the completed hands and woman,  attaching at pre-designed cut lines.
Apart from the fact that Kelly has always loved this 'picture' - the symbolism is meant to be me/us as parents releasing her into the 'care' of her husband to be!   I even gave him his 'titanium' i.e. silver coloured wedding band.  (convenient that - did'nt have to try and colour it gold....)!!!
Constructive criticism always welcome!

My only criticism is that your criticism is unwarranted.....it's beautiful! I love it in the bright and dimmed light. In the bright light the darker glass you mentioned gives me the feeling like you had her wrapped up close to you within a sheer shawl, and are releasing her, letting her find her wings.

It's Fantastic I love it!

I think that you have an outstanding result with this and your daughter will be overcome with your thoughtfulness. She will know exactly your thought process because it has meant a lot to her. Since you don't like the chain how about a twisted came border when you get the lead. You have put and a lot of thought and love into this.

This is just lovely Elizabeth and you're daughter is sure to love it.  I agree that you're being waaay to hard on yourself.  I like the color combinations and if you can get some H came I think that you'll be pleased with the outside finish on it.

LOL, since we had the tutorial on making "sling" frames with the stuff I've used it on nearly every round or oval panel I've done lately..and LOVE it.  So thanks to the forum for showing us that "old dogs CAN learn new tricks" and adding that one to the arsenal.

Nicely done!  Can't wait to hear of your daughters reaction!

It is beautiful Beth, and I'm sure Kelly will be thrilled you took the time to convert one of her favorite scenes into a panel she'll treasure forever! We're always our own worst critics but if you aren't happy with the chain border you probbly should change it or it'll always bug you.  It's not like you won't see the panel again after it's delivered. The colors in it are really lovely.

What a fantastic piece. Your issues with it are unwarranted. They will love it and treasure it always. The symbolism in your design is so special for a wedding gift.

Thank you all for the nice comments!   I've had it hanging up for a couple of days now and am making my peace with my little disappointments, - but AM  going to try to order  some came to re-do that edging!
