This is the front view mock-up of the house number sign that I will be starting in the next few days. I have not completely decided on the fused panel yet, but I am leaning toward something "Spring-like" with some bright colors. I won't know what it will be till I start throwing the glass around. Once I have that decided, I will post a pic of it and continue to post it's progress as well as the rest of the project as a whole. The concept of this design is interchangeable fused panels that can be changed with the seasons or even holidays. The frame/box will be designed to be able to be opened, allowing the fused panel to be taken out to slide another in. It will be lit by 1 under cabinet fluorescent fixture and have a light sensor so it will come on and go off automatically. These are the initial plans, but as with anything, can change while in progress. I'll keep you informed as I go.
Stay tuned.
Kev

What a great idea, Kev...I'm going to keep tabs on your postings. I especially like the idea of interchangeable panels for the seasons. Good luck!

I really like that font you used for the numbers - which font is that? The idea of an interchangeable panel is . What about weatherproofing? I don't think you would want to get water on the inside - might cause more of an effect than you are looking for.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, Anne, it's for my own house. If it turns out well, maybe I'll make more.
Alan, the font is called "Brando Engraved".
Right now I'm thinking of making the top of the fixture slanted like that of mailboxes with a flip up lid. The wood will be Cedar or pressure treated wood. As far as the weatherproofing thing, I'm not sure it will be much of an issue as it will be located under the eaves of the house. I can't use silicone on the upper panel as then I would not be able to change the panel. The weather will be no problem for the glass itself, and the fixture will be attached at the back of the unit against the house. I have not fully decided as to the lighting of it yet...I have not fully explored the possibilities available, but will do so before the cabinet is built as it may change the depth of it depending on the light used.

Alen, he could use the putty that they call "monkey shi*t in the navy, he would not have any problem. They (the electric company) use this putty around your meter box.

Here is the mock-up for the design. It will be fused glass with some painted detail. I figure the bonsai is a good general year round panel visible day or night, and will be interchangeable when desired for holidays etc.

Can't wait to see how it comes out. There is a pleasant simplicity to it. I know you will do a great job, as always.

Well, you'd think so, wouldn't you? It's kind of like the old adage about the shoemakers family... I've found that the trick is when he has time to do a project for me I have him do multiples!!
