Hi guys,

I'm soon going to be delving into the casting realm making a frog for an upcoming piece.

Any tips or hints?

I know nothing about casting, but I'm glad you're doing this!  Looking forward to learning along with you!

I didn't consider the sunflowers casting - I thought you were talking about the big glass blocks Kev! Are you using a mold and frit like I did with the sunflower?

It's one of my favorite things to do.  The best thing I did when I started frit casting was check out the project sheets on the Colour de Verre site.  Start at the top and work your way down!  Ther is alot of good info there to get you started.

Been there did that! Love all the info there. I have to decide what molds to order. I think I am really drawn to the maple leaves and the oak leaf/acorn mold.

Would that be a burning kiss or a shattering experience?

Good one Tre Glassic and Kev

I love the glass flower molds, but those are for glass and are really pricey too

Another great reference tool is Jane Persico's book "Glass Kiln Casting with Colour de Verre".  It's full of lots of valuable information for using casting molds...whether they're from CDV or not!

Before you get started....do you still have some Primo kiln wash?  It's really the best kind for frit casting molds.

Cool!  Just remember that you should clean your mold each time it's fired and reapply the wash.  It's easy to clean out with a kitchen brush...Primo turns powdery when fire.  Reapplying each time can be a pain but it's worth it and part of the process!

OK..thanks for the tip. I also have those textured molds I ordered a long time ago that I don't even have unwrapped yet. I'll have to give them a try as well. I'll use the Primo on them as well.

Primo works great for fusing in those textured molds.
