Hello everyone! Seems like forever since I've posted, so thought I should just show that I have been doing some glass in between wedding dresses and and an unco-operative internet modem! Both items are for Tracy's wedding next month. It is a very small affair in their garden - in fact, after parents and siblings there are only going to be about 12 of their very close friends - or as they put it 'people who are touching our lives at this time!' Ian sandblasted the lower portion of the glass mugs, which I then 'decorated' with foil and nuggets. These will be 'favours' for guests to take home with them - after they have used them for the day for their beer/Gluewein/tea/coffee, even wine if they like!! Did I mention that Tracy is my 'recycling' and very thrifty daughter?!! The candle shelters are made from 1 litre wine bottles cut in half with the top inverted and decorated.....they actually are straight - not sure how I managed to photograph them to look skew! - and no! I did'nt drink the wine from the bottles before I took the photo!! The idea of the inverted top is that the candles will be sheltered from the wind. As the wedding starts at 11am and folk are to be drinking mugsfull of wine - not sure who will still be outside by the time it's dark to need candles......but what the 'bride' wants....... Today I cut a bunch of mirror circles for the other daughter's wedding centrepieces in December.......So not too much time for any other gainfull glass creations at the moment!

Hey! They're kinda neat. For future ref, I'd suggest either putting copper patina on the solder, or using silver backed foil. Not necessary, but it would match things up.

Yay Beth. Tracy will probably be thrilled with them, as will her friends. And yes, it is nice you're both working on this for her!

To tell the truth, Graham - I usually do use black backed for my 'mediaeval' stuff - but found I'd run out! Nothing available locally of course - and no time to wait for it to be mailed - Tracy needed to take them with her to attach tags or something...we won't see them again till the night before the 'party'. Soooo - I cheated and am hoping none of the guests notices!! Yes, Audrey, pretty it should be - and unusual! will send pictures when it's all over.

Do you have any tips for cutting the wine bottles? I did some, but it was hit or miss.

Very pretty, I'm sure all the guests will love them!!! Congrats on your girls upcoming big day by the way, you must be almost as excited (or maybe more *winks) as she is! Smaller wedding parties are fun, I think it's easier to enjoy the atmosphere and for everyone to really spend time with the bride.

Wow Beth you have been busier than a one armed paper hanger for sure. You know the copper tape jumped out at me too, but I really think that only glass people would notice that. The wedding guests will be very intrigued by the pieces, as I am. They are lovely. I love that you re-cycled wine bottles for the candle holders, and that you used the entire bottle. Way to go. Very pretty eye candy. I can't wait to see the wedding dress. My mom made my 9th prom gown. It was yellow slipper satin with 3 tiers double sided and gathered. They were then attached to a fitted dress which was square across the chest and had spaghetti straps. I can still hear her cursing when one of the three rows of gathering switching would break on her LOL. So God Bless you taking on the making of your daugter's dress. I can barely wait to see pictures. I hope that she has just the perfect day, cause you both are working so hard to ensure that she does. She is one lucky girl to have you both.

I'm no good at the bottle cutting either! (too impatient, maybe??) - but Ian is pretty good. Basically, - we have one of those cutters that sits in the neck of the bottle on a rubber 'stopper' thingie - then you have to adjust screws to make the cutter fit the bottle. This is my first downfall, as I can't tighten the screws enough..... Anyhow - you score the bottle,(hoping that the screws dont slip and send the cutter off on it's own mission!! ) then Ian uses a funnel with a length of tubing attached to it to fill the bottle to - or just above the score with hot but not boiling water. (he does'nt let the hot water run down the sides of the bottle) Then use a spray bottle to spray cold water on the score, turning the bottle as you go - and most times it cracks right along the line for him - for me ----it just cracks every which way!! Will try to get some pics of the process when I can get him to cut some more bottles.... Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I'm just relying on the fact that after a couple of mugs of gluwein/wine/beer, the guest won't notice the copper foil shining in their eyes!!

I didn't even notice the copper-copper foil. I would like to see pictures of the bottle cutting process, and of the cutter. I haven't seen one that went inside the bottle.
