Spiders

So, this Interior Designer/Newpaper columnist in our province did this huge column last week about the in thing to decorate withthis summer is spiders and insects.  I don't do insects other than dragonflys and butterflys but I thought what the heck let's do some spiders.  I have a show this week so we'll see if people listened to her! They were fun to do anyway!  Finicky but once I figured out the best way to get the legs on straight and where to put them they went quickly. They'll hang or sit, and could also be used as screen door savers - just slot the fishing line into the screen and tie it off - and if you wanted to put a magnet on the back then you'd just want to position the legs accordingly. There you go, a quick easy idea for those of you that have sumer shows this year!

I think they're cute *lol!! You're the one that got me trying butterflies and dragonflies again so I might give these a go if you don't mind :). Even for fun to have a couple on the table so the kids touch them and leave my coasters alone :P.

Anne those are cute I have seen them around here in all sizes, from itty bitty to table size(there you go Amber) that are about 4-5" long.

I saw "bug screen door savers" about 6 years ago and I immediately bought one.
Cost me $ 8.00, which is a lot cheaper than replacing the screen.

This topic did come up on one of the stained glass forums and many agreed
that if you owned a cat (which I don't) this is not a good item to buy.
The cat may try to jump up and get the bug and ruin your screen door.
Just thought I'd mention what I now know.

On the plus side no one has tried to walk through the screen door
so I haven't had to pay to get it replaced. For me it was a good
investment.

Interesting!  I've been making screen door savers for a few years now (never spiders tho) and no one has ever mentioned that!  Makes sense tho I suppose.  I've had more comments about how many people have bought them because of the number of two legged friends that have done damage to the screen door.

They are really neat. I made a ladybug once and cracked the glass messing with the legs!
Peanut just ignors screens, too many squirrels and wunnybabbits to chase hereabouts!

When we had the shop in Jordan, we used to sell 4 or 5 dozen a season of screen spiders, lady bugs, caterpillers and ants. One of us would make a half dozen or so, when there wasn't any other specific job to do. Then one day we'd notice that there were none left. Don't remember ever ending the year with any left over.

If you don't like spiders, you can make them with three body segments and six legs and call them ants and they are cute and sell well, too.  I have also made bees.
