On the retail model, there is a magnet on the end of the tube cap that sticks to the magnet on the hummingbird.

That's how mine are made too.  I mis-spoke about my tubes being copper...they're brass.  Two piece tubes, the larger is .281, the smaller .266.  The smaller tube is crimped on the end and a tiny hole drilled near the top.  The larger tube is capped at the bottom with a magnet. When put together the tubes are about 3 1/4" long.  The head of the hummingbird also has a brass cap with a magnet.

I wonder if they bought the tubes and then got the flosser for the base. The tubes themselves are 50.00 for 6..the tubes and flosser are 68.00.

I don't know. I just know that he looked at one and the next thing I know I had one!  grin  With the price of metals I don't know how much cheaper it would be now to make one but it was when I got mine....last year or possibly the year before.

Ya..I think trying to get the 2 diameters of tubing might be a pain as well as fitting them with magnets of the same size. My luck I'd buy the tubes and then find out they do not fit the flosser...I'll just splurge and get the set.

Thanks for sharing Becki. I can't believe you have not experimented with this.

That is cool and I showed it to Art and he thinks it would be easier just to buy it....but then again he would be the one making it and with the wait much cheaper to buy it...added to my list. Thanks for sharing Becki, now start playing with it!!!!

I guess the magnets are glued on so there is nothing stoping you making applicator tubes from some other materials, maybe plastic caps? I suppose a lot of things that vibrate could be adapted, engravers often use a foot control with their pens. Even a Biro is a possibility if the vibration can be harnessed down a tube of sorts.
