I'm not sure what the meaning is yet, but I just got the following message from Hollander (Canada)

"Dear Clients,

Please Note ... the following Weller 100 Watt Temperature Control Soldering Irons are on hold by the manufacturer until further notice ...
        C-SI W100 and C-SI W100PG

We will advise as soon as we know more."

Will update as info becomes available.

Graham, I had gotten a notice similar to that regarding some lights I had on order.  In the case of my notice it was related to several complaints of fire caused by the product.  Just guessing.  Will be interested in hearing why though.

When I first started working with glass I was given a bunch of stuff. Including a weller 100 and a china dish with a sponge in it. Early on the screw on the shaft hit the silver line on the china dish and shorted out. Pop! scared me. And the iron was fried, trash.

Foolishly, I did not make the connection well enough and kept using the dish. Last year, I cooked another one the same way. I trashed the dish and the iron that time. Now I treat that screw with the utmost respect. I still have 2 more on the shelf to destroy.

the other part of the story about the lights will really have you scatchng you heads.

I bought one of those stick lights you put under cabinets and such to install in my large upright fountain.  It was UL inspected and made by one of the well known companies.

I opened and used the template that is included, then went about reading the rest of the info on the installation instructions.  In small red print it said "fire hazard".  HELLO, fire hazard!!!!!,  I was miffed to say the least.

I took it back to the store told them why I was returning it and the stupid store manager says "do you want another one"?

Oh yes give me another one, this one only burned down half my house, I wanta finish it off!!!!!!!!!

Scary when you think of all the people who are laid off, needing jobs and this guy is the manager of a huge store, huh.
