A "drop out," is also called a "drop ring."  Actually, this is the first time I have heard it called a "drop out."

That makes perfect sense, Ian!  I just never heard that term.  It could be that I quit reading so much about fusing when I realized that I warm glass was not going to be my main focus.  I didn't mean what I said as a correction to what you said, just as an additional comment.    Friends
