I went looking to find the design stage of this window but maybe I never posted it here. Sorry, I could not find it anyway. I wnated to try many forms of lead stuff so I designed a wind for some friends.

I used 1/2" and  3/8" HF lead as well as HR. I also practiced putting reinforcement on the back in the way of little fins like I saw on some Tiffany big windows. Wow, it makes it so much stronger, fast!

I chose to paint it with just trace lines and no matt.

Now for some lead

The red lines are where I soldered the restrip on the leads in the back.

Alan , ha, ha, ha. I like Speedy!

Anne, I have put restrip in foil lines many times. But the big lead windows I saw this summer have flat iron bent to the contour of the leads and tack welded to the joints and sometimes the lead itself. So I thought I would try it with the restrip on this little window. It is only 12" x 19". I think this process is called adding fins to the lead. I don't know the terms but others may.

I was pleased with how it really strengthened the window.

The close up photo of the flower is the back showing the restrip soldered on top of the lead line.

I'm glad it strengthened it for you Judy.  I've never seen it done like that before that's why I queried it.

Wow Judy, Wow again, I'm floored with your ability with painting!  Wonderful job!

Loved all of the pictures..this was an excellent tutorial!  If I'd been the friends receiving that I'd have fainted dead away with delight.

De, the friends are in a RV traveling from Massachusetts to Florida right now.  And Judy has the glass in Alaska!  We aren't going to be able to see their faces when they see it.  I wish we could!

Anne, I have some pictures we took last summer of some Tiffany windows with fins.  I will dig them out and post a few.

Judy, we should have taken pictures when they were showing us how to do it!

As promised, the first picture is one Judy took of me looking at the back of a Tiffany with fins.  The second is a closeup of the fins.  Judy took it, also.  (I hope Judy doesn't get me for copyright violation.)

While I was digging through the pictures, I saw this one.  I have to post it because it cracks me up.  I hope I don't get in trouble.  Judy took this one, too.

The pics of the "fins" are very self explanatory..good picture taking!  Thanks for posting those.  I wouldn't worry about copywrite violation if I were you. LOL.

That picture is not me and Judy, she is taking it.  The one on the left is me.  Do you recognize the one on the right?
