Is there a rule of thumb for coverage per square foot?
This is for a typical commercial look panel, the bevels and glass strips stuff.
Size 18"x18", zinc frame.
Last time I mixed putty was an eon ago for a pair of wall cabinet doors, I remember the unused portion was wasteful.
I used Vic's recipe but don't remember how much was enough.

I don't think there is a rule of thumb; there are too many variable factors.  You might try starting with a cup of whiting and a few tablespoons of each linseed oil.  If you have leftover, it will keep a LONG time in an airtight container covered with water.  The putty inside the jar covered with water, not the whole jar.   angel

Neither is there a rule of fingers nor toes.

Rebecca's suggestion of making a cup's worth the first time is good. Next time you'll have some idea of whether you need that much or more or less.

Square feet don't make the difference.  Example - a square foot that has 4 pieces in it will take much less than one with 50 pieces. More came, more putty required. Also thickness of glass in comparison with height of heart will call for more or less putty.
