My oldest daughter, who is only 33, was diagnosed with breast cancer.  After six months of chemo treatment her bioposy came back clear!!!!!  I cannot say enough about early detection and treatment.  She has to remain on the treatment, but to honor her and others, I plan on making this ribbon angel with a portion of the proceeds going to the charity that Samantha, my daughter chooses, and an addition $1.00 going to the charity that the purchaser chooses (organizations like Beyond Boobs, Save the Ta-Tas, Relay for Life, etc).
This is a really rough prototype, put it together this morning before I went to work, but please let me know if you have any suggestions or comments for improving on this.
Thanks
Evelyn

I also am glad to hear the good news Evelyn! I am happy for her ..bless her heart.

Your angel is perfect just the way it is and is quite lovely actually. I think you have a real winner here. All the best to your daughter and you, as well as every other woman and family going through this. When you are ready to sell them, I want to be your first customer. My boss had breast cancer and unfortunately, her prognosis is not that good...it's now metastasized, but I would love to give her one as a gift.

Its so hard when your child goes through something like this, my son had a battle with testicular cancer and had been cancer clear over 4 years. The angels are beautiful the way they are and I'm sure will raise tons.

I am so glad to hear that your daughter has beat this terrible disease. I can only imagine how relieved you both must feel. The angel is just precious. It should bring in a lot of money for charity.

Kev
I feel for your boss, bless her heart, I will keep good thoughts and prayers for her.

Thank you for making the offer to be my first customer - however - this is such an important charity/cause I would love for everyone to make their own angels to give to loved ones, important people in their lives, etc and start their own "drive" for the cure and to contribute to their "local" charity.

I would love to share this "idea" with everyone and I'll draw the pattern and post it for use.

The filigree wings I ordered from Warner Stained Glass - they are a close out item and selling very cheap ($.46 per pair) its item #3021-11  - flux and tin

Halo is 14 gauge wire
Glass glob for head
Wispy pink (spectrum 609-8) for the body
3 pieces to cut total
Add wire reinforcement to right part of ribbon where it connects to long ribbon for added stability.

I have put a price of $16.00 for each angel with at least $2.00 going to charity and I'm still working out the actual cost - so the amount going to the charties may be higher.

Hope this helps everyone and I'll post a pattern as soon as I draw one up.

Evelyn

For now the doctors are planning to keep her on the treatment for 5 years, but she goes back in 6 months for another biopsy and at that time they will decide how long to keep her on the treatment.  The best part of this treatment is that it is a "pill" that she takes daily and although she has had some side effects, they have not been as severe as "actual chemo".  But the pill worked magic and the two masses they originally found are gone.  I can't remember the name of the pill but it is an amazing drug.  Samantha was able to keep up with her daughter (our grandbaby) who will be 4 in June, run the church nursery/preschool all while her husband was out to sea with the Navy.

Yep - nasty stuff alright - SWMBO went thru that 15+ years ago now - her veins today are very fragile - she hates to go in for her annual blood work and always asks the person how they have been drawing blood - if less than 5 years she requests someone else. The good news is that the oncologist does need to see her now for another 4 years - at the 20 year milestone!

Evelyn that Angel is just perfect exactly the way it is..I can't imagine anything that would make it better.

I'm very, very  glad that your daughter received good news, what a frightening thing to hear, and early diagnosis, I agree, can be the key to being a breast cancer survivor!  I just found out last week that a friend of one of my co-workers went in for genetic testing, along with her other two sisters.  Their mother had breast cancer, underwent radical mastectomy, unfortunately she was also a genetic carrier for Ovarian cancer, which later was the cause of her death.  Her daughters decided that they would find out who had the genes and take some precautionary action.  Only one had the genes for breast cancer, she's 30 years old and going in next week for a total mastectomy.  I feel for her, but she's got a great attitude about it and will live to see her new little boy grow up.

Alan, I'm happy about your wife's news that she's been free of it for 15 years!  That is a wonderful thing.  It is good to know that there are happy positive outcomes!

That angel is awesome. She makes me think she is dancing or kicking up her heals. Cancer seems to be all around me right now. Thankfully none under my roof yet. I am so glad your daughter is clean now :)

Evelyn, that is great news on your daughter. I hope things continue on well for a long time to come. She may be taking the same pill or kind of pill my mom is taking after her single mastectomy in December last year, though I don't know the name of it either.

I would love to make this angel for many people I know for sure let me know when you have the pattern posted.

Let's see if I can post the pattern that Nansea was so wonderful for drawing.

Here's another ribbon that I did in yellow with a portion of the proceeds going to The Wounded Warrior Project.  (Thanks Joan Frances for the idea and reminder.)

In June I'm doing a craft show to benefit The Laurel Shelter, which is for abused women and children.  It is sponsored by The Blue Knights, a motorcycle club formed by law enforcement members.  Not sure on the color ribbon for either cause - law enforcement and abused women and children - still looking at the color chart for ribbons.

Glad I could help Evelyn:)

Here is the other one with the wings in case you need for the placement. Part of halo went behind the wings, which is why it's the shape shown. I coloured the wings in to show the difference from the background. Using filegree wings is a super idea! The total angel height is 5½" tall which would include the halo. It's also available in glass eye if anyone wants to use it that way.

Nice piece Evelen! Friends
