If your little street was having multi-household yard sale at the end of a cul-de-sac, would you be out with some of your glass?

I have done this.

Around these parts, merchandise starts crawling away at 10% of actual worth.

you mean people still try to barter you down???

Part of me is inclined to do it, but it's a round about way of letting the neighborhood know what I do and seeing if maybe they may remember me for later ;).

Look at it this way Amber, it is free advertising.  You can have you business cards out and any other printed info that you can give out.  You could also have a guest book for future contacts if you ever want to hold a private, invitation only show.  I have done shows like that at Christmas time and never made less than $600.00.  Not a bad return for a Saturday afternoon.  No packing, driving, or show fees.

You can offer suncatchers at lower prices but also show off some of your large pieces.

Thank you Amber, you gave me a great idea.  I think I just may do one this summer, or even one just before mother's day.  Who knows, could be a good resource

I hear you there Amber.  I have been trying to figure out how I can hang some stained glass things in my car without them smashing and breaking LOL

Amber,

My answer would be depends on how yard sales are shopped in your area... around here I would be wasting my time because everything is bartered for at a yard sale (even the $.25 items) and the majority of the people that frequent the yard sales are not going to buy anything later.

I looked into one of those and an attorney friend of mine told me I could void my car insurance by advertising my glass business on a car that only had regular insurance on it

I wouldn't do it here either as the people here that are going to the yard/garage sales are looking to 'steal' whatever it is they buy.  Something you might want to consider instead is having an open house Amber.  Make up little flyers on the computer and deliver them to as many houses as you can. I did that a number of years back, did ok with it.  Invited the neighbours to invite their friends.  Nothing wrong with doing that now, then maybe follow up with it again in early fall to try to catch the Christmas market.

Good idea about the free advertising at a yard sale and having an open house!!!

I wouldn't try to sell things at a yard sale tho. In this area, they're regarded as a flea market, but Joan's idea of showing that you're available followed by an invitation to see your studio and work should work. Also, put your business cards into as many places as possible. The bulletin board at the laundry mat, grocery store, hair dressers, information bureaus, the library, the front desk of hotels, motels, boutiques, restaurants, etc, etc. Where ever you think people will frequent a place the most. Try a hardware store & building supply places as well. The opportunities are endless.

I just got magnetized signs made up for both sides of my truck doors and it didn't interfer with my insurance. She knows I use the vehicle to haul supplies and finished goods from one place to another.

I had magnetized signs on my car (for awhile) one blew off on the turnpike..the other one..well it's attached now to my metal garage door.  I need to have a couple of others made up.

I actually did meet some people that were looking to buy supplies via the signs.
