It's been a while since I have done a lot in SG. I learned how to do it quite a while ago, and was designing panels...mermaids mostly, and I had a great set up to do glass, but I went through a divorce and moved. I got into a funk and am hoping to get myself out of the funk by getting back into what I have a passion for, but wasn't doing. I have looked at the works of many of you and am definitely not at your level, and I don't know how to design with a computer, mine is pencil, eraser and paper...LOL I would love to improve on my soldering as it is not as smooth as it can be.
Anyway, maybe thats all more that you wanted to know...hehe, but that's the me of late in a nutshell...

Hi CnZsMum, I can totally relate, and I'm sorry for what you've been going through. I went through a similar experience, not a divorce, but the loss of a job that was my identity for many years. It put me in a funk also! So during my job search..which was taking rather longer than I expected it to, I decided to brush up on my long neglected skills with glass, and I'm sooo glad I did (as you will be too.) It definitely brought me up out of my doldrums and got me excited for something again! And I hope that it does the same for you. No worries about what level you are at, at the moment, and also we have lots of designers here who do drawings with good old paper and pencil! (Including yours truly at times.) Rest assured, that if you have a question, or want to brush up techniques on soldering, or any other glass related (even some non-glass related items!) We will surely be happy to help. And we're so glad you joined us! Enjoy! And get your glass mojo going again!! De

Heck-some of us (me, for example) don't do much of our own design at all and are impressed with any designs-no matter how you create them! Regardless, welcome and I hope you find your passion again! This place will certainly help with that. :>

You came to the right place when it comes to finding inspritation and help. As for soldering, practice is about the only thing that helps with that. Although, in the beginning I was not having an easy time finding my pace with it, until one day I was watching someone while she was soldering and something clicked. After that it was a matter of finding my pace. By pace I mean the amount of speed and the angle I held the soldering iron at and where I held the solder feed.
Finding yourself after a divorce or any life changing happening, can be difficult, but glassing sure does help a bunch for sure.
There surely isn't anything wrong with designing with the good old paper and pencil, the end result is the same, right, a workable pattern.
Most of all have fun, the rest will come back to you

CnZsMum , Welcome! A lot of us have had life altering experiences - and losing yourself in glass is a good way to block it all out for a coupla hours at a time. Count me in with strictly pencil, rubber (eraser) and paper crowd!
